“From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.” Psalm 22:10 (NIV)

In faith, I know this to be true:

God spoke me into my mother’s womb, and he has anointed me to teach his ways to others.

Before I was formed in the womb God knew (Jeremiah 1:5). He “created my inmost being; [he] knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13 NIV).

From my birth, while I was still in the womb, I cast myself into God’s loving hands. He has been my God since I was in my mother’s womb (Psalm 22:10). From birth I have relied on him; he brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise him, My God and Heavenly Father (Psalm 71:6 NIV).

My objective-in-Jesus is to live a life shaped by God, not by my feelings or thoughts, or one shaped by peer pressure. I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for me to do (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).

I will trust in the Lord with all my heart; I will lean not on my own understanding; in all my ways I will acknowledge you, Lord, knowing, since I was in my mother’s womb, you have straightened the oath for me (Proverbs 3:5–6 NIV).

Where is there anyone as mighty as you, Lord?” Psalm 89:8

I am extremely grateful for our God’s magnificent creation. I never cease to be amazed at the thousands of varieties of birds, flowers, trees, leaves, rocks and plants. I love gazing at different mountain ranges such as the Rocky Mountains in Western Canada in all their grandeur or the mountains of California and Arizona with their varying shadows I love quiet streams, gushing waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and oceans. I am continually amazed at the way God controls the oceans – how He allows the tides to come inland just so far and then it has to retreat again.

We read in Isaiah 42: 12

“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span, And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales?”

When I consider that all the water in the world can fit in God’s hand, I know he is a BIG God.

My job keeps me in front of a computer for most of the day and my husband, Marvin, has made a wonderful garden for me just outside my office window. I get to enjoy rhododendrons, hydrangea, azaleas, and many other flowers while I am working. He has also placed the bird feeder within my view.

One morning, last winter, after a heavy snowfall, I filled up the bird feeder and the birds were so happy. They proceeded to put on a real show for me—flitting from one branch to another and then back to the feeder.

Many different birds visit us and although I love them all humming birds have always made me stop what I am doing to watch them. They are amazing:

They fly forward, backward, shift sideways, stop in midair.

They can beat their wings 60 to 200 times per second.

They lap nectar with their tongues (some say that their tongue is like a straw).

They can fly up to 60 miles an hour.

They live 5 -6 years in the wild.

They are the smallest bird in the world.

They consume, on average, half their weight in sugar each day.

Some of them migrate 600 miles to a warmer climate.

When I see these little birds with their magnificent iridescent colours, I am reminded of how wonderful and majestic and amazing our God is. And because He has created so many wonders for us to enjoy here on earth, I know they are but a taste of what He has in store for us in heaven. For this I am so thankful.

Father, I am so thankful for the wonders of your creation. Thank you that you didn’t create the world in black and white or without sounds and smells. I love you God, because you are so great and so kind! Amen

It was one of those moments when I really pondered the intricacies of the handiwork of God. We discovered fourteen baby turtles in our backyard swimming pool. Though only hours old, they were swimming and enjoying the best of times. Netting them out was no easy chore, but was necessary to save them, as they are not designed to live in pool water.

We got some lake water and put it in a kiddie pool so the little children could see them before releasing them to their natural habitat in the lake. Apparently the mother turtle had made a nest and laid eggs in a flowerbed near the pool and when the little hatchlings broke through the shell, they instinctively headed for the closest water. When we fished them out, they all ran back to the pool.

I awed at God’s creation. Though newborn, they could run, swim and knew to find water. Though less than two inches across, they were intricately designed, with one shell design for males and another for females. They had a little tail that wagged as they swam, four feet with tiny fingernails and head at the end on a long neck which they stuck out to survey their surroundings with their tiny little eyes. When picked up, they went into defense mode and pulled everything back into the shell that had been given to them for protection.

I just stared and marveled at God’s creation, as I thought how much greater is his signature creation on human beings. We are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139 says to praise Him for our being fearfully and wonderfully made.

As marvelous a creation as they are, God stamps out the little turtles in identical fashion, gender being the only difference, but with human beings, we are all made in his image but all different.

Do you ever look in the mirror and wished you were different? It seems that most of us, in varying degrees, are not happy with the way we were made.

For some of us, it might physical dissatisfaction, while for others it might be that we’re not be smart enough, or outgoing enough, or etc. etc. etc. In verse 14, the psalmist cries out “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

When God created us, He made us exactly the way He planned. When He designed us, before we were even in our mother’s womb, He planned our size, the color of our eyes, the color of our skin, everything about us! We are unique; one of a kind.

Just as He proclaimed His creation good in Genesis 1, He proclaims that we were made perfect in His sight. Our Father in heaven does not make junk! You are fearfully and wonderfully made and God’s work in your life is wonderful! You do not need to conform to somebody else’s image of success, but only ask God for ears to hear His delight in your creation.

One of the things I have always loved to do is kick off my shoes and sit in the grass – to actually lie on the grass is even better. You can feel the coolness of the green blades and also feel the earth beneath you. To me it seems as if I am actually attached to God. Now I know that God is always part of me and I give thanks for that every day, but when I am there on the grass I feel that I am physically connected to the Living One.

I sit or lie there and my mind goes back to the wonderful story of creation in the first book of Genesis and what an incredibly exciting, wondrous story it is. Everyone has read and also listened to many sermons where this story has been shared. We believe God created our universe and yet I think we need to sometimes become immersed once again in just how exciting and wondrous the world around us is.

So… back to lying on the grass, relaxed, and if I keep still and listen I can hear birds singing out to each other and maybe male crickets rubbing their wings together cheerfully. The warm breeze catches the leaves of the plants around me and out of the corner of my eye I see a flower blazing yellow against the bright green of its leaves and perhaps a red and black lady bug is walking very busily among the petals. To me, all these things are every day miracles and I can revel in creation and know that we are made in God’s image and likeness.

If you have time this month read again the 1st Chapter of the book of Genesis and relate it to all that is around you.

Prayer:
Creator God, how wondrous is your creation. We marvel at how everything has its place and season. Help each of us to become more aware of what is happening around us so that we can appreciate the everyday miracles which are before us. Amen

It happens three hundred times a minute, twenty four hours a day, somewhere on planet earth. It seems so common place. Sometimes it happens in the finest hospitals, sometimes in homes and sometimes even in primitive grass huts. It can be taken for granted and looked upon a no big deal.

What I am talking about is the birth of a baby, and there’s nothing routine about it. God does it and there’s nothing routine about anything He does. I have heard it said that a baby is the only psyco-cybernetic electro feedback mechanism capable of mass reproduction by unskilled labor. Now, I know something about physiology, but I also know something about theology and I know that human reproduction is a God thing. The Bible say it is so.

Each baby is custom designed in heaven by a creating God. No two of the billions created are alike, nor will they ever be. The human genetic structure is to individualized and complicated that if ones genetic structure were to be typed out on regular sized stationary, it would create a stack of paper higher that the Washington Monument.

So, when I first held Jack Grant, our newest grandchild, I knew he was one of a kind, custom designed by the Master Designer and truly unique. He has his mom’s hair and his dad’s nose, but above all, he has God’s purpose. He was created for a reason and for a season. God sent him for a mission.

As I held him, he was less than an hour old. He looked up at me as if to ask: “Who are you and what kind of a world have I been brought into?” Good questions, Jack. As I looked at his precious face, I made a covenant with him and with God, to pray for him every day for as long as I live.

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the folks Thy hands have made, then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee, how great Thou art, how great Thou art!
