During these storms the power often goes out in our neighborhood leaving us without power for light and heat. Last night it was off for several hours. It is amazing how dependent we have become on electricity and how dark it can be without lights and how quickly the cold creeps in.

I am sure thankful that as we go through the storms of life, the “power” of salvation provides an eternal “light” that never goes dark and a source of “heat” that never grows cold.

Let’s remember to thank and praise Him and not take things for granted.

My prayer for you this week

“We praise you oh LORD. We praise you LORD, with all our souls.
We will praise you LORD all our lives; we will sing praise to you, our God, as long as we live.
We will not put our trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets prisoners free, the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
The LORD reigns forever, our God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD. Amen.”
Psalm 146:1-10

A nervous passenger fingered a small set of smooth beads. They were called komboloi or worry beads. The word means “group of knots.” Possibly from the knotted prayer strands used by Greek Orthodox monks.

Gail was seated across the aisle as their plane left the runway.
She was worried, too. But not about the flight. She was being laid off work. Would she soon have enough money for food, rent and clothes?

Gail opened her Bible and began reading Mathew chapter six. God was clearly communicating not to worry. Gail read, “Your heavenly Father already knows…” And later, she saw God provide just what she needed, when she needed it.

Friend, God knows exactly what you’re going through. Pray and seek His wisdom. He loves you and has a plan for your life.

Beloved one, know the assurance of your Father’s blessing, his presence, his favor, and his surrounding grace. Who you are and everything you have is the result of his favor. He is your sun and shield, and his honor validates you (Psalm 84:11). Your Abba wants to take you as his precious child right up next to his heart today. He will keep you close and make his face shine on you and be gracious to you (Numbers 6:24-25). Your Father smiles on you today with his compassion and his full blessing as you seek him (Isaiah 30:18). He has written this day of your life in his book. He knew you before you were born (Psalm 139:16). You are constantly on his mind (Psalm 139:17-18).

Be blessed to know that your Father’s providence goes before you to provide for your every need. He is with you to strengthen you and keep you from harm (1 Chronicles 4:10). Be blessed as his favor rests on his appointed work through your hands (Psalm 90:17), because his purposes and power for you are great.

Dear one, you need favor with your authorities whom God has placed over you and with those in decision-making positions (Ezra 7:27; Nehemiah 1:11). His Word says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases” (Proverbs 21:1). Be blessed as God breaks through all hindrances and uses all concerned with you to fulfill his will on your behalf.

Let your Abba protect your emotions, as he surrounds you with the shield of his presence (Psalm 5:12). He promises that weeping may endure for a night, his anger is but for a moment, but joy comes in the morning, and his favor lasts for your lifetime (Psalm 30:5). He keeps you today in the favor of his love and faithfulness (Proverbs 3:3-4). He withholds no good thing from you as you live before him blamelessly (Psalm 84:11).

Be blessed in the name of the One who rejoices today in doing you good. (Jeremiah 32:41).

“If we are faithless, God will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” 2 Timothy 2:13

Everything had gone wrong in her life, she said. Then she started to cry. “I don’t feel God’s love. I feel like He’s forsaken me. I’m shaky. I can’t pray. I can’t even read the Bible,” she sobbed.

Can you relate? Low periods come into all of our lives. Does that mean that God has left us? That He’s forgotten about us? No!

I reminded my friend that God’s faithfulness is everlasting. It is the same on good days as on bad days. God’s faithfulness does not depend on our feelings.

Imagine walking across a frozen lake in the middle of winter. Your safety doesn’t depend on your feelings, does it? Your safety depends on something quite outside of yourself. It depends on the thickness of the ice. If the ice is dependable, you will get to the other side.

So it is with the faithfulness of God. Even when my heart condemns me, He remains faithful. He cannot betray himself. Paul says in the amplified Bible,

“God is faithful, reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to his promise, and he can be depended on” (1 Corinthians 1:9)

What steps can I take to get myself out of the pit of despair?

–I can sing worship songs that remind me of God’s love and faithfulness
–I can do something constructive, like weeding the garden
–I can reach out to others, maybe take a walk with someone
–I can thank God for my daily blessings. I can choose to give thanks even though I don’t feel it. Thanksgiving is a strong mood elevator.

What step can you take today?

Thank you, Father, that your faithfulness endures forever. You do not change with the weather.
