Every day we choose our direction.

Even when there are tasks that don’t particularly fulfill us or agenda items we might not have put on our top ten list … still, we choose our direction. Remember that where we focus we follow. What we fill up with will determine the direction we head.

Where are you filling up your mind these days? It’s good to take note of what has been spilling over in you lately. Are you going the direction you want to be heading … or do you need to pay attention to your feeding ground and where your focus has been?

Every day we choose what we fill ourselves with. Every day we have opportunity to decide our direction by being mindful of what we are filling our minds with. Thoughts lead to actions and actions lead to habits. Habits will greatly determine your direction in life.

God knows you better than you know yourself. His ways and His word give great guidance as you daily choose your focus. Don’t be tossed about by the events of your day today. Listen to the wisdom God gives to help you focus and choose your direction. He tells you what to do and then how to do it.

Colossians 3:16
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”

Let God’s word fill your thoughts today. It will be rich in bringing wisdom. Let His teaching fill you and put a song in your heart to share with others.

He tells us exactly where to start by letting the word of Christ dwell in us richly. Listen to the profound simplicity of it:

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:17)

Do what is right in front of you today as if you were doing it just for the Lord. Invite Him into it to walk with you through it and give you wisdom as you go. (If you can’t invite God into the activity you are doing then that’s a good caution to re-think going in that direction.)

Then thank God for the opportunity to do it. Thank Him for the people around you. Thank Him for His wisdom as you interact in your day. Ask Him to help His song of thanksgiving rise up within you.

Your focus and the direction of your day will change as you do this. Write out verse 17 and memorize it. As you think on doing your tasks for the Lord today and as you practice gratitude in your heart you will be filled with new peace.

Heavenly Father, Thank you that You give me the wisdom on how to go about my day. Thank you that I do not need to be tossed about by the things going on around me. Today please help me to act and speak as one representing You and Your love and care. Teach me gratitude and remind me to be thankful. Change my focus and my direction today as I fill my mind with the riches of Your wisdom. Encase me in Your presence today. Spill over through me with peace and joy as I go. I thank you and I ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43: 18-19 (NIV)

I notice the house right away as I drive by. It is hard not to notice a yard that’s filled with a wide gamut of clutter. Car parts, tools, furniture, toys, and even trash litter the untidy yard. From what I see in my brief investigation of the front porch, the house isn’t in much better shape. However, amidst all the mess, I notice a small handmade sign staked in the yard that reads “God makes a way.” In the depth of all this clutter and disarray, I completely focus on this one item, the sign.

My heart is touched as I think about what the words on the sign truly mean. My life often gets jumbled with a hectic schedule, relationship demands, my to-do list, and even sin. However, God makes a way for me and directs my steps. The Lord tells us in Isaiah,

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

These scriptures are a reminder to not dwell on things and circumstances of our past. Also, have faith God will help us make it through the everyday mundane tasks as well as the huge trials of life. Sometimes we neglect gaining focus on what needs to be eliminated from of our lives because the jumbled chaos is just too overwhelming. We lose our compass for direction and wonder where we should go from here? Find comfort in knowing that no matter how hopeless your situation seems, God is there to create for you a path of guidance through the mess. Pray for renewed trust in God to navigate through your cluttered life and help you find refuge in His love and direction. Keep your mind’s eye focused on the yard sign that reads

“God makes a way.”

He delights in every detail of their lives.” Psalm 37:23 (NLT)

Have you ever walked the beach and found yourself trying to walk in the footprints of someone else who walked before you? Chances are it felt awkward. Why? Because just like you have unique fingerprints, God fashioned you with a distinct stride through life. Following the path of others or the boardwalks of this world, is not God’s will for your life. In fact, doing so will lead you away from your God-guided path.

God has a road for you to travel; one that leads to the destination He has distinctly prepared for you. Since you walk by faith, you will not know everything along the way. You’ll need to keep asking God for direction, be sensitive to what His Spirit says, and then proceed onward. As you travel this righteous path, you need to trust that the Lord goes before you every step of the way.

Others may misguide you, your flesh may want to take an easier route, and the enemy may lure you into quicksand, but God will never mislead you. He will point out the truthful way, and you are to walk in it. There He will provide for your needs, protect your God-guided footprints, and help you fulfill your destiny. Should you detour, quickly repent and God will guide you back to the right path your feet are to travel.

More to Ponder: Thank God that He has a good path for your feet to travel as He faithfully leads you each step of the way. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you stay on the path of God’s choosing.

How often at the start of a new week do we wonder what this week will bring?

We may have had a wonderful, relaxing weekend and yet when we wake and look at another week ahead of us, we worry that there will not be enough hours in the day to complete all the goals we have set for ourselves, and the days seem to stretch out endlessly. It also seems to be that in today’s world it is all about goals and where we are headed. The end result seems to be all we think about and we are always working towards that end and miss so many beautiful moments and blessings along the way.

God has given us the freedom to choose how we live our lives and it is up to us to ensure that we choose the path that God is showing us. Do we take up too much time striving to meet deadlines or accomplish goals? Are we too impatient trying to see the end results of our striving? How often do we walk in the sunlight among the flowers or are we always walking in the shadows, stressed and withdrawn.

These days we are told to prioritize, but do we place more priority on our daily work rather than seek God’s guidance and place God as our priority before we attempt anything else? Whatever we are doing we need to place God first and that means whether we are in paid work, tending to our families, volunteering, in fact, anything that fills the hours in our day. Let it all be for God’s glory so that the light of Christ can shine through this world.

Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Loving and Compassionate Christ, help us to seek your direction in all that we do. Enable us to embrace every moment of each day so that we can see the everyday miracles and share your unconditional love with all we meet. Amen.
