Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. It produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, and patience! Have you asked God to give you some fruit? Well, I once did, but… But what? Did you, [hmm…] grow impatient? He won’t grow impatient with your pleading, and you will receive patience in your praying.

And while you’re praying, ask for understanding.

“Patient people have great understanding” (Proverbs 14:29).

Could it be your impatience stems from a lack of understanding? Patience always hitches a ride with understanding.

“A man of understanding holds his tongue” (Proverbs 11:12).

Before you blow up, listen up. Before you strike out, tune in. Before anything else…love is patient!

God is being patient with you (2 Peter 3:9). And if God is being patient with you, can’t you pass on some patience to others? Of course you can! Because before love is anything else—love is patient!

Thoughts on today’s verse

No matter how we try to perceive God, he is still God and we are not. We must forever remember that the original and still primary sin was to try to become like God in terms of knowledge and understanding. We are to know God, but we can never fully know about him. We are to take on his character, but we cannot approach his majesty. This is both exciting and frustrating. But the promise remains that one day we will be like him and see him as he is.

Prayer:

Tender Shepherd, thank you for being so patient with me when I cannot fully understand and appreciate your holy and transcendent character. Thank you for sending Jesus so I can know you better and trust you to know me better than I know myself. I look forward to seeing you face to face when Jesus comes to bring me home. Until that day, please know I love you. Through Jesus I offer my thanks and praise. Amen.

Devotional on God's Patience: But God does more than demand patience from us; he offers it to us. According to Galatians 5:22, patience is a fruit of his Spirit.

How infiltrated are you with God’s patience? You’ve heard about it. Read about it. Perhaps underlined Bible passages regarding it. But have you received it? The proof is in your patience. Patience deeply received results in patience freely offered! Remember the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18:34? “Then the angry king sent the man to prison until he had paid every penny.” Whew! we sigh. It’s a good thing God doesn’t imprison the impatient in real life.

Don’t be so sure. Impatience still imprisons the soul. But God does more than demand patience from us; he offers it to us. According to Galatians 5:22, patience is a fruit of his Spirit. Have you asked God to give you some fruit? Did you…um…grow impatient? Well, ask him again and again.
