No Fear!

Published on April 29, 2020

“David shouted in reply, ‘You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD Almighty-the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied’”  1 Samuel 17:45

We all know the story of David and Goliath from first Samuel. Jesse sends David out to the battlefield to bring his brothers some nourishment and to bring back a report. David ends up fighting a giant.

Nowhere do I read that David received a revelation from God to fight Goliath. He simply saw that this warrior was defying his God, and he leapt into action. In fact, he seemed to be at complete peace about the whole situation.

Fast forward a few years to 1 Samuel 21:10-15. Go ahead, open your bible and see what happened.

Somewhere along the line, David forgot to trust in God’s strength and began to rely upon his own strength. He began to doubt God’s calling on his life as Israel’s next king. He was afraid.

What happens when you allow fear to intrude into your life? When you begin to trust your own strength a little too much? Do you question God’s direction in your life? Do you give up? Does illness set in? When fear sets in, do you look like the madman described above?

No matter how often we fall, God will always go before us and help us to be strong and courageous. His Spirit helps us control our lives. He is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

We have nothing to fear.

God, thank you for going before me  in everything you have called me to. Thank you that I have nothing to fear because You promise strength and courage. Thank you for your faithfulness to your children. Amen.
