Shelter Of The Most High

Published on November 30, 2024

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Ps. 91:1-2

Sometimes, warfare is less about attacking and more about resting in the shelter of Elyon―God Most High. God faithfully promises our security while we live in His protecting presence. He is our fortress, hiding place, shield, and refuge. When David was gripped by fear due to the oppression of his enemies, he ran to God, his escape and shelter of confidence, until the danger passed (Ps. 55:8). God is our secret place of escape, and knowing His nearness is the foundation of our trust and our assurance of victory.

Heavenly Father, I ask that You affirm my position in the shelter of Jesus and His finished work on the cross. Bring the peace of Your presence into my greatest challenges. I surrender them to You now. Lord, I seek the shelter of Your Tabernacle to be lifted high in Your presence. One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple (Ps. 27:4) Lord, may Your presence shelter me from the intrigues of men and keep me safe from accusing tongues (Ps. 31:20).

Almighty God, I choose to dwell in You, Most High, and rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will abide with You forever and trust in the shelter of Your wings. (Ps. 91:1, 61:4). Lord, You have been a refuge for the poor and the needy in their distress. Your glory is my shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. (Is. 25:4) I choose to find my refuge and hiding place from the storms in You (Is. 4:6).

In every trial and tribulation, I seek the shelter of the Most High God, knowing that Your protection is sure and Your presence is my peace. Thank You, Lord, for being my refuge and strength. Amen.
