“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God; you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration; what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.” Psalm 139: 13-16 (The Message Bible)
It is hard to believe that I have eight grandchildren. What a joy it is to have them all together at our house.
As I looked at each one, I could not help but realize how unique each one is. Though in the same family, they are so different in looks, personality and actions. And, the older they get, the more they will distinguish themselves as to their likes and dislikes, as well as their life career.
Looking at each, I wondered what they will be doing twenty, thirty or more years from now.
I thought of the psalmist’s description in Psalm 139 about our unique creation. Of all of the questions I am wondering about my grandchildren, God knew the answers while they were still in their mother’s womb. We are all marvelously made. God knows us inside and out and He knows every bone in our body. He sculptured us from nothing into something and all the stages of our life are spread out before Him, like an open book. He had prepared our life before we had even lived for a day.
Let us pause to celebrate the sanctity of human life, the uniqueness of creation and the fact that when people decide to terminate a human life for their own convenience that they are taking away and destroying God’s very own creation, for it is He who has made us and not we ourselves.
May we realize how precious human life is and speak out against those who want our laws to allow abortion in the name of choice.
