“Oh, magnify the Lord with me” Psalm 34:3
We have a new grandson. He was born six weeks early and gave us a bit of a scare. We were packed and ready to go to a conference in balmy Florida, but then, with one phone call in the middle of the night, our plans changed. We repacked, changed our flights and flew to very cold Fort McMurray in northern Alberta. Our daughter-in-law was in labor and the baby was in trouble.
However, as soon as we walked into the airport terminal and saw our son, we knew all was well. The baby had arrived at noon, and both he and mother were doing well. Praise the Lord!
We drove straight to the hospital to see mother and grandson. We gazed at the baby for a long time. There is something about babies that softens a person’s heart and makes me all tender and warm inside.
And of course we checked him out. Whom did he look like? His dark complexion and hair resembled his dad, but his facial features were more like his mom. Yes, he looked like his parents. He was their child.
You know, we are the children of God. Who do we look like? Can people see Jesus in us? Do you spend enough time with Him, so you take on His characteristics and mannerisms? We are to reflect Jesus, like a mirror. Do we magnify Him and make Him seem bigger? Most people we meet have a small view of Jesus. Does their view of Jesus change when they have been with us?
In his book, Just Like Jesus, Max Lucado states,
“God loves you just the way you are. But he refuses to leave you there. He wants you to have a heart like his. He wants you to be just like Jesus.”
Oswald Chambers writes in his devotional book, My Utmost for His Highest,
“The one and only characteristic of the Holy Ghost in a man is a strong family resemblance to Jesus Christ, and the freedom from everything unlike Him.”
Are we prepared to allow the Holy Spirit to change us so we are just like Jesus? Let’s do it!
Father, thank You for loving us just the way we are. Thank You for loving us enough to change us into the likeness of Your Son. Here we are Lord; change us! Amen.
