Luke 10:38-42 “Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Imagine… If you had the chance to sit at the feet of Jesus, to look upon His face and deep into His eyes, and listen to every word He had to say.
Doesn’t the very thought take your breath away?
I can imagine all the cares of the world would suddenly fall away.
To do lists would not be on our minds–
Our focus would move from duties and obligations to something bigger,
Someone much more important.
We would have one thing and one thing only on our mind–
Who we are with and the magnitude of who He is and what He says.
There is nothing else that compares to this.
When you read about Mary at the feet of Jesus, don’t you wish you could trade places with her, or join her and receive the blessing of those moments one on one with the Lord?
The account in Luke 10 transcends observations about personality types as the discussions usually run, but illuminates who we need to make our priority above all other aspects of our lives.
It is about Who we should all desire to spend time with every day.
Mary had the privilege of sitting before Him—spending quality time with Jesus. She made the choice. Will we?
