“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
In his book, Lost in Wonder, Dr. S T Kimbrough Jr. writes about poet, hymn writer and theologian Charles Wesley’s determined quest “to know the heights and depths of God’s love“. Wesley’s words in a poem from the 1740’s reveal his heart:
“Wrestling, I will not let Thee go,
Till I Thy name, Thy nature know.”
Kimbrough says, “We grasp for the Unknown, and we hold fast to that which we cannot see.” In the midst of our grasping, we can be sure that as fervently as we seek God, He seeks us ever more. And God promises that our quest will be fulfilled when we seek Him with all our heart.
God invites our seeking and promises that such a search will never be in vain. Jesus said, “Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35) It’s time to turn to the God who is ever turning to me, finally acknowledging that only He can fill the void in my heart.
Thank you, God, for never tiring of my search, always extending your hand of love. Give me grace to reach out accept all you have done for me.
