‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. Zech. 4:6
Lord, bless me indeed. Your kindness and commitment of covenant love leads me to repentance and is unchanged by my blindness and failures, great or small (Rom. 2:4). Don’t let me confuse this world’s wood, hay, and stubble with eternally significant gold, silver, and precious stones (1 Cor 3:12-15). I don’t want to chase in my effort what does not stand.
Enlarge my borders. Elijah was like me, and through prayer, You are willing to do mighty things for me, as You did for him (James 5:17). You worked the miracles, not Elijah. Like him, I can cry out to You when I face impossibility and watch You do what only You can do. (2 Kings 2:14). Not by my might, but by Your Spirit.
Don’t let me try to win by my effort what You long to give freely—love, approval, satisfaction, etc. Don’t let me try to earn Your “well done,” thinking Your love is conditioned on my performance. I am found in Jesus—my wisdom, righteousness, holiness, redemption. I boast in Him (1 Cor. 1:30).
The Light of life is on my side. Help me today not choose sides with the kingdom of darkness. I want to give it no place in my attentions or affections (John 12:35-36, 14:30).
Help me recognize what You are doing in all its aspects so that I whine less and praise You more. I choose to rest as the beloved, knowing You are at work in all things. (Isa 25:1, Phil. 4:6-7).
