He Knows My Name

Published on May 27, 2024

“It’s lonely, way out in left field; the coach doesn’t even know my name.

This quote from the song “Way Out in Left Field” from the musical I need a Vacation by John Jacobson and Mac Huff that my school is performing made me think of being an overlooked nobody.

When I took piano lessons as a shy 8-year-old, the teacher couldn’t remember my name. Week after week,I would sit there on the hard bench, wincing as she called me Linda. I didn’t have the self advocacy skills to remind her of my real name. Ironically, now I can’t remember her name!

Ah, but there is Someone who has always known my name, even before my parents named me. He is so powerful that He cannot forget me, or my name. He has also promised to give me a new name.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some
of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows
except the one who receives it “(Revelation 2:17).

“But now, thus says the Lord…:

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine’” (Isaiah 43:1 ESV).

He bought me back and it cost a lot. I am His. I need never fear.  There is nothing to fear with the most powerful King of the universe on my side. He knows my name!

If you feel unknown and overlooked, please reread Isaiah 43:1 and realize that you are known and precious to our wonderful Father. He knows you inside and out, the good, the bad and the ugly side of you; yet still chooses to love you. Get to know Him through His word and His Holy Spirit. Love Him back by obeying Him.
